Meteorites are among the most unusual rocks any of us will ever hold. Crashing out of other planets, moons, and asteroids, hurtling through space and plummeting to the atmosphere of the earth, few rocks will ever match the history experienced by a meteorite. These are the objects that demolished the dinosaurs, that rival nuclear bombs in their destructive force, and hold the secrets to how our earth formed. In recent times, meteorite collecting has taken off. Holding a piece of an asteroid or of Mars or the Moon is something many of us would love to do, and, with time, effort, and a fair bit of capital, sometimes this dream becomes reality. Still many more of us would love to find a meteorite, and show that the rock came from one of those strange places, and then sell it to the nearest billionaire to retire in luxury. This eBook is designed to help both new collectors and experienced collectors with meteorites. For the new collector, the book provides a handy question and answer session that helps a novice identify whether a rock is a meteorite. The questions here include key distinguishing features, such as magnetic pull, density, and color. For the more experienced collector, there is a handy “family tree” of meteorites, that provides the relationship between various meteorite classes and gives details on each. Meteorites such as acapulcoites, angrites, aubrites, and ataxites are defined and distinguished by their characteristics. This book is currently bare-bones. There’s a few images, but not many. Most of it is text, the quiz, and the family tree. A future guide book will include more detailed photos and descriptions, among other things. However, increasing the size of the book makes it impossible to distribute for a dollar. Be on the lookout for the full guidebook!
