▶ DESCRIPTION"A promise from God may very instructively be compared to a check payable to order," wrote the renowned British pastor Charles H. Spurgeon. "It is given to the believer with the view of bestowing upon him some good thing. It is not meant that he should read it over comfortably, and then have done with it. No, he is to treat the promise as a reality, as a man treats a check." That idea pervades the 365 readings of this thought-provoking daily devotional, designed to encourage readers to take God at His word. This new edition has been lightly edited for modern readers.▶ CONTENTS1. January2. February3. March4. April5. May6. June7. July8. August9. September10. October11. November12. December13. In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to around 10,000,000 people, often up to 10 times a week at different places. His sermons have been translated into many languages. Spurgeon was the pastor of the New Park Street Chapel in London for 38 years. He was part of several controversies with the Baptist Union of Great Britain, and later had to leave that denomination. Throughout his life, Spurgeon suffered from depression and other mental illnesses. In 1857, he started a charity organisation called Spurgeon's which now works globally. He also founded Spurgeon's College, which was named after him after his death.
