Aboriginal tradition has it that the remains were from a lost Spanish or Portugese expedition; the survivors of which were accepted and integrated into the Aboriginal people's society after all hope of returning to their base was lost. This book is the result of more than 20 years research by archaeologist and historian Greg Jefferys and includes numerous maps and photographs as well as detailed oral histories related to the galleon legend from Aboriginal and European sources. It includes the reports of people who found the shipwreck in the 19th and early part of the 20th century as well as information passed on to the author by Aboriginal people of Stradbroke Island. It also lists artefacts (often with images) that have been taken from the wreck over the years as well as the legends of a vast buried treasure hidden by the wreck's survivors, the location of which was passed down through the generations of their descendants. An interesting addition to the historical and archaeological material is created by the author using the stories told to him by Aboriginal descendants of the shipwreck survivors to reconstruct the original shipwreck story.
