Oolitic limestone sample approximately 1" (3cm) in size
Composed primarily of ooids - small, smooth pieces of calcium carbonate
Perfect size for use in classroom identification labs and exercises, correlates well to Next Generation Science Standards Evidence Statements
Some samples may contain identifiable fossil material
Specimen comes in clear labeled and barcoded bag for ideal storage
Oolitic limestone is a carbonate rock formed from the cementation of thousands of ooids. Ooids are tiny nodules formed from the accumulation of carbonate material around a nucleus. When cemented together and lithified, these ooids can form rock. Oolitic limestone forms in reef or lagoon environments, and is useful in the classroom for lessons on depositional facies, sedimentary rocks, and stratigraphy. Each sample is approximately 1" long and comes in a labeled plastic bag.
