DIFFERENTIATING GROWTH MEDIUM || 100g bottle of powdered growth medium. Used to grow, maintain and determine if cultures produce extracellular enzymes to catalyze the hydrolysis of starch.
EASY TO PREPARE || Simply mix 25 g medium with 1 L deionized water and bring to a boil while stirring to ensure medium is completely dissolved. Pour into petri dishes, then allow medium to cool and solidify.
EXCELLENT FOR LABORATORIES AND CLASSROOMS || Ideal for use in general biology and microbiology laboratories and classrooms.
APPLICATIONS || Starch Agar is used to determine if bacteria produce extracellular enzymes to catalyze the hydrolysis of starch. Starch agar is inoculated and incubated at 37°C for 48 hours. The surface of the agar is then flooded with a potassium or potassium iodide solution (not included). Organisms that produce a starch hydrolyzing enzyme will display a clear zone around the area of growth while other areas of the agar containing starch will turn blue-black.
MANUFACTURED IN THE USA || The Curated Chemical Collection by Innovating Science is comprised of high quality chemical products that manufactured in the United States.
100 grams of Starch Agar, used to grow, maintain and determine if cultures produce extracellular enzymes to catalyze the hydrolysis of starch (potassium or potassium iodide solution required, not included). Agar comes dehydrated in a plastic open-mouth bottle for convenient storage. Each bottle makes 4 L of growth medium. Each bottle comes with an SDS, providing safe handling and storage information.
