This water quality meter/analyzer can be used to detect and track changes of drinking water quality at raw source or the filtration effect of water filter systems on important dimensions reflecting organic compounds, oxidizable contaminants and dissolved solids in water. Using innovative spectral sensing technology, this precision device gives lab grade reading in seconds. Best Testing Coverage with TOC and COD Total Organic Carbon (TOC) is a measurement of the total amount of carbon in organic compounds. TOC in source waters comes from decaying natural organisms as well as synthetic sources like home/garden chemicals for daily use. It includes both Purgeable Organic Carbon (also called VOC, Volatile Organic Carbon) and Non-purgeable Organic Carbon. TOC has become an important parameter to monitor overall levels of organic compounds present. It covers all three organic test areas in a typical test package (microbiology, VOC and SOC). Contaminations in any of those three areas like pathogens, THMS etc. would yield a higher TOC reading. On the other hand, a normal TOC reading would generally indicate that there is no organic contamination*. High TOC in water also reacts with chlorine and forms carcinogenic disinfection byproducts (DBP). It is important to know and control the TOC level before chlorination of (ground) water. Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) is correlated to TOC most of the time.
