Product Description Fowler Vernier Micrometer has a choice of measuring range from 0 to 6 inches with a flat anvil/spindle pair with a 0.256-inch diameter measuring face for general purpose measuring. The vernier scale on the thimble and sleeve red to .0001". The positive locking nut on spindle locks measurements in place when required and the zero adjustment on the sleeve ensures accurate measurements. The ratchet-stop thimble can be used independently of the friction thimble. It provides an audible sound and stops the spindle from turning when the spindle comes into contact with the workpiece, providing constant force for consistent measurements between operators. Micrometers are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure distances. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Micrometers are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometers: outside, inside, and depth. Outside micrometers may also be called micrometer calipers and are used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object. Inside micrometers are typically used to measure interior diameter, as in a hole. Depth micrometers measure the height, or depth, of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot. Fowler, an American company, manufactures premium inspection and measurement instruments like electronic indicators, calipers, bore gages, and micrometers. The company, founded in 1946, is headquartered in Canton, MA. From the Manufacturer Fowler's Swiss Style micrometers are made exclusively for Fowler. A great value--they offer the same fine features and quality that you expect from comparable tools at a fraction of the cost. It's designed with a unique friction, which allows a one hand operation. This Friction/Ratchet thimble assures you of consistent readings at all times. Barrel, thimble and frame are satin chrome finished; micro-fine graduations allow easy reading. This outside inch micrometer set is included in a fitted case. Also a wrench is included, permitting quick and easy zero adjustments on sleeve. Special care in design and workmanship create a long lasting precision tool.
