When you buy replacement charcoal filters, it is better to choose a bigger size and cut to desired diameter than to buy a too small size. You can also help control fruit flies by keeping a sprinkle jar of diatomaceous earth and sprinkle in your compost bucket after washing. Remember, fruit flies do not “get into” the bin. When you put fruit peels in the bin then within 24-30 hours, fruit flies can hatch from eggs that are in the fruit peels.
