Peugeot - Peugeot - Paris Manual Salt Mill Features

  • ICONIC SALT MILL — The natural wood Paris manual salt mill enhances the flavors of the meals that you create. Precise and even grinding are the key words for this emblematic mill by Peugeot. Engineered and manufactured in France

  • ADJUSTABLE KNOB — The grind control knob on the head of the mill can be twisted to create your precise balance of flavor. A two-stage grinding mechanism first effortlessly shatters and then grinds the salt to the desired texture

  • PRECISION GRIND — Through two centuries of experience, we have expertly engineered each salt mill and mechanism specifically for the consistency and shape of the salt. This salt grinder transforms dry salt crystals into your desired grain size. We make the gears from stainless steel that is not sensitive to salt corrosion for a lifetime longevity

  • ENHANCE FLAVOR — To help you bring out the best in your food and your Paris mill, use only dry rock salt — it is not recommended for sea salt. Salt intensifies aromas, balances other flavors and makes vegetables tastier. Find your Peugeot moment and enjoy the art of French living with our instruments of taste

  • READY TO SEASON — Our mills come partially filled for immediate enjoyment. The Cristaux de sel blanc d'Allemagne is a dry white salt that comes from Germany, and is perfect for everyday cooking. The salt is available to buy in Peugeot 13 oz. (370g) cubes. To refill simply unscrew the top knob, lift off the top and pour in your dry salt (max size ⅙ -inch/4mm)

  • CRAFTED BEECHWOOD — All our mills are made with PEFC-certified wood sourced from local sustainably managed forests and water-based paints. Each product is a marriage of ingenuity and elegance, designed so that the colors and curved lines give off exceptional charm in your home

About Peugeot - Peugeot - Paris Manual Salt Mill

Amazon.com Paris pepper and salt mills from Peugeot, traditionally styled of turned beechwood, enjoy the classic look of mills used by fine restaurants, especially the impressive 16-inch model. The difference between the salt and pepper mills lies in the grinding mechanism. Peugeot pepper mills use case-hardened-steel grinding heads with two sizes of grooves; the larger grooves crack the peppercorns in half and direct them into the smaller grooves, which grind them much more finely than most mills. The grinding mechanism in Peugeot salt mills is purposefully constructed with 18/10 stainless-steel, which won't corrode from prolonged contact with the salt. The top of each mill unscrews for adding peppercorns and salt, while the round ball nut can be loosened or tightened to vary the coarseness of the grind. Paris pepper and salt mills make exceptional gifts individually or as a set. The mills come in a wide range of heights, from 4-3/4 to nearly 20 inches, and in a variety of finishes, including matte chocolate and natural wood, and a shiny blue, yellow, or red lacquer. Care for a mill is easy: clean the exterior and inner chamber with a damp cloth; never immerse in water; avoid putting salt in the pepper mill, or grinding green or pink peppercorns by themselves (mixed with black is fine); and avoid damp types of salt (usually pink or gray) in the regular salt mill. Made in France, Peugeot mills are covered by a two-year replacement policy, while the grinding mechanism is covered by a lifetime warranty. Peugeot has been a leading manufacturer of pepper mills since the 1840s, and is a brand preferred by many restaurants and chefs. --Ann Bieri Product Description Advantage of Freshly Ground Spices There are many benefits to freshly grinding pepper, salt, herbs and spices for cooking and seasoning. A quality mill with a specifically designed grinding mechanism will release the aromas and essential oils of that spice. Freshly ground pepper and spices have more aroma and better flavor than pre- ground. Another advantage of using freshly ground spices or minerals (salts) is the control a mill provides for determining the coarseness (size) of a grind. A high quality pepper, salt or spice mill gives you the ability to choose and change the coarseness according to taste or necessity. How to Choose a Good Mill When looking for a pepper, salt or spice grinder, consider the following: Grinding mechanism: Choose a grinding mechanism that can withstand daily use: one that is well made and produces a consistent grind. Ideally, the grinding mechanism should be designed to handle a specific spice, as each spice has different physical characteristics that will benefit from different design features. Design and appearance: Whether it's traditional or modern, manual or electric, a mill can be an indispensable tool in your kitchen and a beautiful part of table decor. Ease of Use: A quality mill should be easy to adjust, easy to fill, and feel comfortable in the hand. History of Peugeot Peugeot's story starts in the 19th century when the Peugeot brothers converted the family's gristmill into a steel foundry. They began producing award winning hand tools immediately after opening and went on to produce a diverse range of exceptional quality products including small appliances, bicycles and most notably, automobiles. (Although now operating as a separate company, the Peugeot car company continues the same commitment to quality and innovation that is a Peugeot hallmark). In 1840 Peugeot created their burr style coffee grinder and adopted that design to accommodate peppercorns in 1874. The resulting pepper mechanism design is still used today in every Peugeot pepper mill. Peugeot's iconic pepper grinding mechanism design is often copied, but never equaled. Today, Peugeot offers six unique spice-specific mechanisms plus the original burr-style coffee grinder. There are no shortcuts: each mechanism is designed to get the most out of the spices they are
