Lernaean Hydra was a monster in Greek mythology, it possessed multiple heads, although the exact number varies according to the source, the Hydra also have regenerative power, for every head decapitated, the Hydra would regrow two heads. The second labor of Hercules was to kill the Hydra, realizing that he could not defeat the Hydra by decapitation, Hercules called on his nephew Iolaus for help. Iolaus came up with the idea to scorch the neck stump and cauterize the wound after each decapitation, his tactic worked eventually lead to the defeat of the Hydra.
