Long length drill bits, also called taper length, have longer flutes and overall lengths than Jobber drill bits
118-degree conventional point angles good for general drilling applications
Round shanks can be used with a variety of tool-holding systems
Uncoated (bright), economical and useful with a wide range of drilling applications
High-speed steel, for use on a wide variety of materials
The Precision Twist 5ATL long length, 118-degree conventional point, general purpose round shank drill bit made of high-speed steel (HSS) with uncoated(bright) finish. It is suitable for drilling holes to a depth up to six times the diameter of the drill size. The shank diameter is the same as the drill size. The 118-degree conventional point design is the most commonly accepted standard for drilling holes in a variety of material, such as wood, metal and synthetics. It comes with a uncoated (bright) finish helps keep costs down, yet provides acceptable performance in most situations. For drill bit sizes 1.00mm/0.0394 inch and less than 18.00mm/0.71 inches, the drills are uncoated, without any additional treatment. The bright finish facilitates chip flow in soft materials. For drill bit sizes between 19.00mm/0.7480 inches and 31.00mm/1.2205 inches, the drills have a black oxide finish. This finish gives a strongly adhering surface treatment that acts to retain cutting fluid and prevent chip to tool welding, reducing the formation of a built-up edge. Drilling, or hole making, is the most common metalworking operation in the world. Twist drill bits are the most common type of drill bit used. Twist drill bits can be used in hand operated drills, standalone drill presses or a machine tool called a lathe, to drill a hole. The flutes of the drill bit act a passageway for chip extraction from the hole and for coolant to enter the hole. These drill bits have a right hand twist that brings the chips up and away from the cutting edge. They are made to DIN 340 industry standards, which ensure that drill bits around the world, confirm to the same specifications. Dormer Pramet manufactures cutting tools under the following brands: Precision Twist Drill, Dormer, Union Butterfield and Pramet. The company has locations around the world, and provides tools adhering to ANSI, NAS, and DIN standards.
