About All-Terrain Skiing II: Body Mechanics And Balance

All-Terrain Skiing II (ATS2) condenses extreme skiing pioneer Dan Egan’s 40 years of ski experience into an approachable guide to help skiers of all abilities take their skills to the next level. The book and app feature video demonstrations and step-by-step instructions for thirty-two exercises so skiers can master their body mechanics and balance while skiing powder, ice, and all the conditions and terrain in between. The All-Terrain Skiing II (ATS2) program includes a book (also available as an ebook) and a demonstrative app. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, these resources will help you master your skiing mind, find expression in the mountains, and build your confidence. All Terrain Skiing II readers can download the free app for quick in-pocket reference on the hill. All-Terrain Skiing II is an integrated, self-contained program for beginning, intermediate, and advanced skiers—in other words, anyone who wants to learn to ski better. Lessons are identified with international trail marking symbols: Green Circle for beginners, Blue Square for intermediate skiers, and Black Diamond for experts. In ATS2, drills are also categorized to help you organize your lessons for quick access. These drills help you make body alignments while in motion, which ultimately increases your efficiency of motion and allows you to ski longer and with more control. The goal is to develop a new awareness of your relationship to gravity in a variety of ski conditions; to dynamically orient and angulate your body to maximize your control and efficiency; and to achieve constant fluid motion. Skiing is not an intellectual activity; skiing is a simple physical activity based on good body position. Keep these four principles in mind, and you’ll soon be skiing better than ever: Good balance Powerful stance with shoulders square to the hill Eyes focused up or down the hill Proper hand position The goal of this program is for you to become aware of every aspect of your body positioning in order to expand where and how you ski the mountain. The drills are designed to take your mind off performance and focus your body energy on the task at hand. By removing the projected outcome, we can zero in on how to react in each moment to the changing situations, terrain, and conditions. This will enhance our performance overall. Every skier should begin with Balance before progressing to Upper Body, Power, Fluidity, and then Agility. Assess your skills and your skill level, then work on mastering one set of drills at a time. Each drill complements every other drill, building competence. Even if some of the drills seem silly or simple at first, as you practice, you’ll see how they progressively require more energy. And as your program builds, so will your confidence and your courage to try high-end maneuvers. About Dan Egan: Dan Egan is world-renowned for his big mountain skiing on the international stage.
