About 105 Youth Football Drills

From the Inside Flap Excerpt Recently a football coaching buddy and I were carrying on a text message conversation about ideas to improve how we teach blocking every day in practice. It was fairly standard stuff, like which skills to drill, how much time to spend on each, how many kids should be in each group, how many coaches to assign to each group. At some point, I paused to consider how much time our team spends during the course of a season practicing compared to how much time we spend playing games. The back-of-the-napkin math came out to this: 70 hours practicing, 9 hours playing games. While it was not surprising that we spend more time practicing than playing games, it was surprising that the two numbers were so dramatically different. Saturday games are definitely fun, when Grandma and Grandpa get to come out and see the kids looking sharp in their uniforms. But practice is where the really good stuff happens, where we teach kids football fundamentals, teamwork, work ethic, etc. As someone who has searched for and found a book titled "105 Youth Football Drills," we are guessing that you, too, value the time spent at football practice. That is fantastic! Unfortunately in our years involved in youth football we have seen too many coaches not invest sufficient time into planning their practices. The result is kids who do not get the most out of their experience, and who are less likely to stick with the sport as they get older. These pages are full of specific drills that we have used, are planning on using, or have seen others use to teach kids football. Product Description More than any other sport, football requires a wide variety of skills and techniques. Blocking, tackling, throwing, cutting, backpedaling, catching -- the list goes on and on. Knowing where to start can be overwhelming to a youth football coach. In 105 Youth Football Drills, a veteran youth football coach takes you through practice activities that will teach your players fundamentals while developing their abilities. Appropriate for new or experienced coaches, these drills are appropriate for athletes from Pop Warner through college. If you’re looking for ideas on how to create better football players, 105 Youth Football Drills is a great place to start.
