Product Description In between sojourns from Ireland to the USA in search of a new audience, Steafán has spent the last 3 years recording his sophomore album entitled Nuclear Family, recorded in Paris, Helsinki, Dublin and mixed by Franz Ferdinand & The Cardigans producer, Tore Johansson, who has also worked with Martha Wainwright & New Order. The record was mastered in London by Mandy The exchange Parnell [Feist/Nick Cave/Bonnie Prince Billy], and features guest appearances by Liam Ó Maonolaí [Hothouse Flowers], Bertrand Belin & again the Papenfus brothers, Carl & Ken of Relish. Review Nuclear Family reveals Hanvey s maturity as a singer-songwriter. With top-notch production, Hanvey s voice and acoustic guitar simmer as songs build into a rolling boil. This album discusses the trials and tribulations of life, exposing pain, anger, anguish, passion and love along the way. Hanvey works with a cast of nearly twenty musicians on Nuclear Family, which adds plenty of warmth and ambiance to the record. --Splinters and Candy Steafán Hanvey is one of those singer-songwriters who will probably continue being classified as a folk rock artist long after he s left any significant element of traditional music behind. (This is the price you pay for playing an acoustic guitar.) On Nuclear Family, he rocks out in a variety of styles, from the crunchy and compressed bombast of Darling Please and Show Me the Woman to the more Beatlesque Back to You, but there s also plenty of what can reasonably be called folk rock. Hanvey has a nice, subtle way with a hook and a pleasantly plainspoken singing style. --CD Hotlist
