Phlox is a compact, low plant with clusters of 5-petaled, brightly colored flowers.
Phlox is a slow-growing annual that reaches only 10 inches tall and likes full sun.
Native to the Pacific Northwest, phlox grows well in temperate climates, especially along the coast. It is very attractive to beneficial insects.
In mid to late spring, the dark green needle-like leaves are covered with white petals. The 4-6 inch tall evergreen foliage will spread throughout the summer and will grow faster if the plant is trimmed after flowering.
Begin early flowering outside after danger of spring frost has passed, or indoors 4-6 weeks before departure. Cover the seeds lightly and keep moist. Germination usually occurs within 21 days when temperatures are between 65 – 70F.
