To ensure compatibility with iPhone please use the original lightning to 3.5mm adapter. Many non-original adapters do not support microphone function. Most replacement lightning to 3.5mm adapters are not capable of connecting to a microphone. Similarly, if you are using an Android device with no 3.5mm jack, make sure that you are using a USB C to 3.5mm adapter that can be connected to a microphone.
