About the Author Prof Thuli Madonsela is the Chair in Social Justice at Stellenbosch University. She rose from humble beginnings as a single mother of two children to a highly acclaimed advocate who gained global recognition for her exceptional work and was listed as Time magazine's one of the top 100 most influential people in the world. She was chosen as Forbes Africa's Person of the Year in 2016 and was recently included in Forbes Africa's 50 Most Powerful Women list recognition of her efforts to promote ethical governance in pursuit of a more peaceful world. The personification of integrity, courage and dignity, this former Public Protector of South Africa has received numerous prestigious accolades. These include the Commonwealth Lawyers Association's Truth and Justice Award, the Truth and Justice Award of the Law Society of South Africa, the annual prize of the German Africa Foundation and Transparency International's prestigious Integrity Award. She is the founder of the ThuMa Foundation, an Independent Democracy Leadership and Literacy Social enterprise. A Tallberg Global Leader, she spent a year at Harvard in 2017 as an Advanced Leadership Fellow. As part of a climb under the theme of dignity and social justice, she conquered Mount Kilimanjaro in 2019. She continues to lead by example and inspire hope to people the world over.
