Product Description Anton Reicha (1770-1836) was a friend of Beethoven and teacher of Berlioz, Gounod, Franck, and Liszt. Reicha was one of the most-respected composers of the period and the 24 woodwind quintets, of which this CD presents two, are his masterworks. They are almost all between 30 and 40 minutes long and are like symphonies in their scope. The Westwood Wind Quintet, regarded as one of the best woodwind ensembles in the world, has recorded all 24 of these glorious quintets. Crystal Records presents two on each CD. Review Glorious quintets...a constant freshness, a feeling of unquenchable invention...with radiant good humour --International Record Review An excellent and effective interpretation. Excellent recording of two fine, less performed Reicha Quintets and a must have CD for all you quintet buffs. --International Double Reed Society Journal Both the quality of composition and the playing on this recording are of a high quality and I recommend it as a good example of Reicha's quintets. Overall a very enjoyable listening experience! --Australian Clarinet and Saxophone Magazine
