We were delighted to find this book recommended and edited by Fr F.X. Lasance and it includes a chapter on Life in the Church by Fr Faber. 2 very well known priests whose writings continue to educate and inspire Catholics. Excerpt:The object of the Forty Hours Adoration is: 1. To make a public profession of our faith in Jesus Christ, the God-man, as He is really, truly and substan- tially present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. 2. To pay a most righteous homage and a most solemn tribute of praise and adoration to the incarnate Son of God in the Sacrament of His love. 3. To offer in a becoming and deserving manner our thanksgiving to the divine Saviour for the institution of the Blessed Sacrament, and for all the graces and benefits that we have received through this sacred mystery. 4. To make reparation and atonement in a most public and appropriate manner for all the insults, irreverences and profanations that are heaped upon Our Lord in the Holy Sacrament by infidels and heretics, as well as by careless and disloyal Catholics. 5. To make supplication for the aversion of calamities, and to offer prayers for divine blessings in behalf of our selves, the Holy Father and the Church. These Eucharistic Sermons of the Rev. Dr. Scheurer aim to impress upon the minds of the faithful the ends and purposes of the Forty Hours Adoration; they are calcu- lated to give the people a clear idea of the dogma of the real presence, and a proper understanding and apprecia- tion of its immense significance in the whole life of the Church and in the supernatural life of each individual soul.
