The origin of Cardamom is Ceylon and the Malabar coast of India. Currently, the largest amount of Cardamom is cultivated in Guatemala. Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) is a perennial evergreen plant that grows in the tropics of the mountain forests. It is grassy, has a very large rhizome, from which several stems two to three meters tall develop. The plant has dark green broadly lanceolate leaves. The flowers are irregular, with three fused petals and three fused sepals, white (sometimes light lilac), with a yellowish edge and blue veins. Fruits - trihedral boxes with seeds - ripen only on the lateral flower shoots.
