The word ‘basmati’ comes from Sanskrit for fragrant. This authentic Deharaduni heirloom varietal has a superior flavor, fragrance and texture. Unfortunately, many farmers have switched to basmati hybrids, bred for yield not taste, so this ancient rice is slowly disappearing. We’ve partnered with organic farmers in Uttarakhand, India to preserve this variety for generations to come. Even better, the farmers growing this rice are using More Crop Per Drop practices to produce more rice with less water, labor and impact on climate.
