6-22 Inspection date HDRs are made to provide a full day's nutrition w you need 3 MREs to accomplish the same. They were made to feed soldiers and large populations that are in need of food. They contain no animal products or by-products. That way they are acceptable to consumers with religious and dietary restrictions. Minimal dairy products are permitted. Alcohol and alcohol ingredients are also banned. They are sealed in bag and packaged similar to a MRE but the similarity stops t Broken down to 10-13& protein, 27-30% fat, and no less than 60% carbohydrates. A spoon and a non-alcohol moist towelette are the only two things not eatable in the bag. Each HDR contains 2200 calories. These entrees can be eaten cold but are more desirable when heated. They can be put in a pot of hot water or in a pot for heating over the flame. They are packaged to withstand extreme environmenta conditions and to allow drops when necessary. HDRs originally were identified by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency-Humanitarian Assistance / Demining Activities for feeding large populations under emergency conditions.
