One of the pivotal talents in Jamaican music, Ranglin began as a guitarist with many of the island's post war jazz bands; he came to world attention in the '60s as a pioneer of the ska shuffle that launched Jamaican popular music. Below the Bassline includes Ranglin's takes on the Congo's "Congo Man," August Pablo's "King Tubby Meets the Rockers," Toots & the Maytals classic "54-46 (Was My Number)" and more. Collaborators include Ira Coleman (bass), Idris Muhammad (drums) and others and a guest appearance by Jamaican saxophonist Roland Alphonso.
