About Glenn Morrow's Cry For Help

Product Description The rocker from the Individuals, ''a,'' and Rage To Live--bands that helped define the Hoboken sound delivers a fresh set of songs and stories from the Mile Square City. Call Glenn Morrow a local legend, and he'd probably demur: he's a modest guy, and he prefers to let his songs do the talking. But in Hoboken, NJ a town that has always celebrated idiosyncratic rock musicians, people know better. Morrow has been central to musical movements in the Mile Square City for more than three decades, both as a songwriter/performer and as the head honcho of Bar/None Records, an imprint that has always flown the flag for courageous artists. If you'd like to know who's carrying the torch for one of the most storied local rock scenes of the last three decades, well ... look no further. And if you just want to hear a great, tight, no-nonsense rock 'n' roll record, prepare to heed Morrow's Cry for Help. Cry For Help has already performed live w/ The Feelies, The Waco Brothers, Steve Wynn, and Speed the Plough. They will be playing festivals and selected club dates this summer. Review For a guy with a luminous past, Glenn Morrow sounds firmly fixated on the future on this tune from his first album in 28 years. In the '80s Morrow was at the epicenter of the Hoboken Indie scene that spawned the likes of The Feelies, The Bongos and Yo La Tengo. He fronted local linchpins The Individuals and had played in ''a,''the band that evolved into The Bongos and basically laid the grounwork for the whole Hoboken movement. He also started running the celebrated Bar/None Records and founded Rage To Live, whose 1989 album, ''Blame The Victims'' marked his last appearance as a recording artist. Morrow hasn't exactly been idol in the intervening decades; he's kept Bar/None humming and released albums by They Might Be Giants, Yo La Tengo, The Feelies, Of Montreal and scads of others..... He may not have played in a band since the Reagan administration, but Morrow has never unplugged from the rock 'n' roll current crackling through his bloodstream, asnd his new material makes that apparent. He's bringing as much energy and creativity to the table as ever, but adding the kind of gravitas only maturity can supply. Like the album as a whole, ''The Days To Come'' answers the question, ''What's the most convincing way to rock after making the journey from innocence to experience?'' ------Npr, Jim Allen, June 9,2017''I came early to see your band.'' ------Rolling Stone's David Fricke''He is an extraordinary craftsman; his intricately detailed arrangements and multipart song structures weave together borrowed riffs and references from a variety of pop and rock sources without ever sounding second-hand...But the inventiveness of the songwriting and arrangements isn't allowed to get in the way of the music's forceful impact. Mr. Morrow is able to find emotional resonances in such unlikely sources ... his vocals are intense and deeply felt as well as musicianly. There s much to savor here ... This is music that was made to last.'' ------NY Times
