The SCSS-1 Sling Seat Rigidizer Solid Insert with Safety Strap is designed to eliminate the hammocking effect of wheelchair sling seat upholstery, providing a firm and stable foundation for a gel, foam or air wheelchair cushion. For many wheelchair users, sling seating promotes internal rotation of the lower extremities, sacral sitting, posterior pelvic tilt, loss of natural lumbar lordosis, and obliquity of the pelvis. Such poor positioning can result in discomfort and long-term problems. The Secure SCSS-1 sling seat rigidizer is placed between the wheelchair cushion and sling seat upholstery then secured to the wheelchair with the safety strap. With the rigidizer in place, the user benefits from improved sitting balance, more neutral pelvic position, greater spinal extension, and overall improved comfort. Cushion rigidizers are designed to help wheelchair cushions maintain their shape while in use in a wheelchair with a sling seat. A sling seat is a panel made of fabric or leatherette material that is attached to the seat side rails of a wheelchair.
