One man risks all to save the spiritual life of a nation . . . Three thousand years ago, a lone man challenged the power of an entire kingdom. His name—Elijah. He was an illiterate goatherd who emerged, barefoot, from the deserts of Israel to proclaim a radical idea of the oneness of God. His message, he claimed, came from God himself. Rumors of incredible powers surrounded him. It was said that he could read minds, control the wind and rain, and even raise the dead to life. Opposing him stood Jezebel, the foreign-born pagan queen of Israel. Beautiful, brilliant and rich, she was determined to win the kingdom to the worship of her own gods—a resolution fueled by a tragic secret from her past. These two—prophet and queen—would become locked in an epic struggle that would determine the course of history down to our present age. It is a mismatched contest. Elijah will suffer direly at the hands of the queen, who vows to have him assassinated before he can reach his date with destiny at Mt. Carmel. To survive, he will have to overcome his worst fears and find a strength he did not know he possessed. Ultimately, he will have to unravel the problem of human suffering and find a path to reconciliation with God.
