Probucol is an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and hypocholesterolemic agent. It is also an antihyperlipoproteinemic. Probucol inhibits atherogenesis in genetically hypercholesterolemic rabbits (Watanabe) and attenuates ischemia/reperfusion-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis. Enhances selective uptake of HDL-associated cholesteryl esters.
