Timber Drum Co. is a small workshop in Nashville, Tennessee dedicated to crafting American-made instruments. This Slit Drum is made of solid American hardwood with a hand-rubbed oil finish. (They are sometimes called tongue drums, log drums or slit drums and have a rich and ancient history in the percussion world. ) The sheer weight of this drum is a testament to its build quality. It produces six mellow tones that have a warm, resonant sound that will easily fill the room. You do not have to be a trained drummer or musician to enjoy playing this instrument. It's easy to play because there is no way to hit a wrong note –– each pitch complements all others. Just pick up the mallets and start playing whatever comes to mind. It’s soothing and soft sound creates a relaxing environment for sound healing or meditation sessions. Sound practitioners will enjoy its numerous melodic possibilities to create unique sonic soundscapes. It's also fun to keep at home or at your desk for short work breaks. We included two soft rubber head mallets that draw out a rich, woody tone with plenty of resonance and reduced attack. We highly recommend only using soft head mallets with the Slit Drum. Do not play with drumsticks or hard mallets. Measures 18” L x 5.5” W x 6.25” H and is equipped with four durable rubber feet to keep the drum raised off the ground.
