1/700 Scale. From the great Tamiya waterline series. The Hornet was first put to use on the 18th of April in 1942. In fact, the first U.S. air raid of Tokyo was launched from the deck of the Hornet. The Japanese were suprised to see planes attacking Tokyo that don't have the range necessary to reach it. Hurried through production, the Hornet is almost an exact copy of the Yorktown and the Enterprise, two previously built ships. The Hornet survived for 372 days and then was sunk after sustaining heavy damage in the Battle of the South Seas. This kits exterior surface of the hull is covered with finely engraved details. The ship's command tower is filled with many details like windows, railings, and antennae. The deck of the ship carries 16 B-25 bombers, Anti-aircraft guns scattered about the surface of the ship. A metal ballast weight is included to give the ship the proper dynamic. Waterslide decals provide markings for all of the aircraft as well as the carrier. Skill level 2
