The aircraft carrier U.S.S. Kitty Hawk CV 63 entered service in April 1961 after a prolonged project based upon the Forrestal class and is considered a carrier evolution. The distinct change of this new class is the location of two of the four aircraft elevators in front of the tower which serve as improvement to move planes around the flight deck. Radar screens behind the towel make the tower "island" more compact. During the last thirty years the Kitty Hawk has been altered considerably. Especially defense armament and electronic equipment up-dates keep the carrier in maximum use.
