☀️ Seeds can be sown outdoors anytime after last spring frost, minimum soil temp is 48 degrees F. Plant 1 inch deep, a little deeper for sandier soils. Cover soil to warm if necessary. Pole beans: Set up trellises, or “cattle panels,” and plant 3 inches apart.

Phaseolus coccineus "Scarlet Runner" Prolific green pods that can be eaten while young as snap beans or left to mature on the vine. The flowers are scarlet-red and edible, as well. Once the pods become too tough for snap bean use, the immature seed can be shelled out, or allowed to mature and dry. Dried runner bean seed can be cooked like dried common bean seed. The scarlet runner is a visually stunning vine plant that produces beans, as well as small, red, heart-shaped flowers.
