About Red Stripe Leaf Amaranth Seeds – Unique, Edible
Beginner Gardening Skill Required – Amaranth “Red Stripe Leaf” is a decorative and easy-to-grow salad green. Expected Yield Per Plant: Each seed will produce a small, leafed plant. These leaves are best harvested when tender, while the “stripe” of red on each leaf is still well-defined. This is the nutritional peak of this plant and a time when any potential bitterness in the greens is mild to undetectable. Hearty in Zone 5b and Up. Due to their short growing season, they can still be grown in the summer months of other zones. Ideal temperature range is 65 to 80 degrees F, but these plants will tolerate temperatures down to 50F. Visual Information Seeds: Each Amaranth “Red Stripe Leaf” seeds is a glossy blank color. The seeds are very small, as little as 2 mm in diameter. Leaves: The leaves of the Amaranth “Red Stripe Leaf” plant are bright to deep green, depending on the age of the plant and soil composition. In the center of each leaf if a bright red to burgundy stripe, dependent on the same factors. The leaves have a very mild bitterness and a spinach-like texture and versatility. Younger leaves are preferred for culinary purposes. Older plants are highly decorative.
