Expected blooming period: Spring to Summer
Kale is a hearty, cold-weather crop that can be planted at any time from early spring to early summer. Sow seeds approximately 1/2" deep and 8" apart in well-drained, light soil. Soil pH should be 6.5 to 6.8 to discourage disease. After 2 weeks, thin seedlings so they’re 24" apart. Keep soil moist, but not over watered as plants grow. Feed regularly. When the leaves are about the size of your hand, harvest a fistful at a time. Harvesting the oldest leaves first, from the lowest section of the plant, to give younger leaves time to grow.
