Description Perlite is a naturally occurring siliceous rock that expands when heated to 1600 degree F, producing a lightweight and porous material that is commonly used as a soil additive in gardening. Perlite has a neutral pH and is sterile, non-flammable, odorless, and nontoxic. It does not decay nor shrink and is long lasting. Perlite helps soil to retain moisture and nutrients while preventing root compaction, allowing for healthy root growth and better drainage.
