Luffa Extra Long Luffa cylindrica Approx. 80-90 days This is a prolific, vigorous variety taht produces extra long gourds, up to 15 per plant. The fruit has a green skin and excellent flavor. Fruit weighs up to 1 pound and is approx. 1.5" in diameter and reaches 30"+. Fruit left to mature on the vine can be used for luffa sponges. Warm season annual Cultivation: Prepare fertile, well drained soil. Sow seeds after last frost in a warm, sunny location. The seed coat is hard and should be soaked in warm water for 24 hours or lightly scarified before sowing. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. Train to climb a vertical support for better air circulation, straighter fruit and ease of harvest. To process for luffa sponges, allow gourds to hang on the vine until they are fully mature and the skin hardens/dries. Remove skin and seeds. Germination Temperature: 86-90°F Seed Depth: 1" Plant Spacing: 12-18" Please note: Maturity, adaptability and disease tolerance may differ under your specific climate and/or growing conditions.
