The Washington Hawthorn is a native of The US. It is named for Washington DC, not the state of Washington. They are very ornamental! The leaves are a reddish purple in spring, green in summer, & orange & red in fall. In spring, the tree is covered in very showy clusters of flowers. The edible red berries appear in clusters in the fall. They can be eaten raw or cooked, & have a mild flavor. The Hawthorn is a nectar plant for bees & butterflies, & songbirds & squirrels love to eat the berries.
