About The Old Farmer's Almanac Sweet Pea Seeds
Sweet Peas thrive in fertile, organically rich, well-drained soil. Start 2-3 seeds per hole as soon as the soil can be worked (about 4-6 weeks before the last frost date in cooler climates). When the seedlings are 3-4 inches tall, thin to 1 plant every 12 inches. Keep soil moist, watering at the base of the plant to avoid wetting foliage. Knee High Sweet Peas do not need support. The bushy plants will produce long, straight stems with 5-6 inch florets filled with colorful, long-lasting flowers. In warmer climates sow sweet pea seeds in the fall for beautiful winter and spring blooms. For maximum growth plant seeds at the bottom of a 6'' trench with soil until the ground is level beneath the growing plants.
