Origin. Etlingera elatior (also known as torch ginger, ginger flower, red ginger lily, torch lily, wild ginger, combrang, kecombrang, bunga kantan, Philippine wax flower), Indonesian tall ginger, boca de dragón, rose de porcelaine, and porcelain rose) is native to Thailand, Malesia and New Guinea.
USDA Hardiness Zone. Torch ginger (Etlingera elatior) is a perennial tropical plant with distinctive colorful blooms grown in 10–12 (USDA).
Use. Perfect for adding beautiful, lasting color to borders, gardens, containers, or window boxes. And are easy to cut for a splendid bouquet and flower arrangements.
When to plant. Torch ginger has a fairly quick growth rate and is best planted in the spring.
Sow. Soake seeds overnight. Push four or five seeds into the soil, 1/2 to 3/4 inches deep and evenly spaced. Cover the container with plastic wrap, and set it in a spot with bright, indirect sunlight where the temperature will remain between 77 and 86 degrees. Continue to keep the soil evenly moist. You should see germination within three to four weeks.
