Echinacea purpurea (Purple Coneflower) is a garden classic perennial plant and one of our most popular native wildflowers. Attract bees, butterflies, and birds to your backyard with Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea). This perennial produces vibrant purple flowers and grows up to 4 feet tall with 3 to 4-inch flowers. It is rare in much of its native range and a valuable habitat plant. In Fall, goldfinches feast on the Echinacea seeds. Direct sow in late fall, planting the Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) seeds 1/4" deep and lightly compacting the soil. For spring planting, mix the seed with moist sand and store it in the refrigerator for 90 days before direct sowing; keep the soil consistently moist until germination.
