SUN: The plant is native to the subtropical climatic area and therefore appreciates plenty of sunlight. You can locate the plant where it can receive 6-8 hours of full sunlight on a daily basis.
SOIL: The golden shower should be grown in well-drained soil. The trees are moderately drought- and salt-tolerant.
WATER: Water this plant on a regular basis until the roots become well established at least. Water the plant whenever the top 1-2 inches of the soil feels dry to the touch.
EXPECTED BLOOM PERIOD: The flowers continue to display from late spring to late summer.
WHEN TO PLANT: May be grown from seed sown directly in the garden in spring (after the danger of frost has passed).
Golden shower is a fast-growing tree that reaches 30 to 40 feet in height and 30 to 40 feet wide. The well-spaced branches are clothed with pinnately compound leaves, with leaflets up to eight inches long and 2.5 inches wide. These leaves will drop from the tree for a short period of time and are quickly replaced by new leaves. In summer, the golden shower is decorated with thick clusters of showy yellow blooms which cover the slightly drooping branches. The blooms are followed by the production of 2-foot-long, dark brown, cylindrical seedpods which persist on the tree throughout the winter before falling to litter the ground.
