About CHUXAY GARDEN Orange Heliconia Wagneriana,Bihai

Heliconia wagneriana is a medium sized erect Heliconia, about 6-8 feet tall. It originates from Puerto Rico, Columbia and Central America. Grown extensively in the Tropics as a border plant. Can be grown as houseplant or greenhouse specimen. Popular for cutting to be used in large flower arrangements. A classic Heliconia that produces 5 to 10 upright flowering bracts in the colors of pale yellow with bright pink cheeks and a thin green border. The colorful bracts combine with the wide boat shaped leaves of this plant creates a great tropical display. The plant would regenerate itself the next Spring, because the tuber would have survived. Blooms from May through August. If in reasonable conditions, it blooms all year. Usually blooming during the cool season. Blooms from January through July, with a peak in April and May, which is why its common name is Easter Heliconia.Heliconia wagneriana seems to be rather tolerant to cool weather and grow well in subtropical conditions and has some cold tolerance.Recommended temperature 25°C. Provide warmth and high humidity. Can take full sun and semi shade. Needs rich soil containing peat moss, matter and coarse sand, and regular fertilizer. Use palm tree fertilizer and plant in well drained soil. It is really thirsty, water freely during growing months and moderately in Winter.
