Petunia is a perennial herbaceous or semi–shrub crop from the Solanaceae family. The plant's homeland is South America. In the wild, petunia prefers moist forests.
The flowers of the culture are large, simple in shape or terry, some varieties have corrugated petals. The corolla in diameter reaches up to 7 cm, in large–flowered plants - 15 cm.
This plant should only be grown in full sunlight. It does best in average to evenly moist conditions, but will not tolerate standing water. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments.
The flowers do best in the temperature range of 65-85 F (18-30 C). The speckles will appear as long as the temperature stays the same.
Petunias are annuals, so they only last the growing season. Luckily, once they bloom, they will keep blooming for months until the first fall frost. "Night Sky" petunias tend to start blooming in the summer and continue into the fall.
