About 1000 ORANGE CALIFORNIA POPPY Eschscholzia

This has to be one of the dirty GardnerÍs all-time favorite flower seed mixes. The 'mission bell mix' is a combination of brilliantly colored, double petal California poppies. California poppies are native to California. They prefer full sun and can grow where the water supply is limited. They don't abide transplanting very well and typically do better if started outdoors. California poppies can be perennial flowers, but they are frost sensitive and will not survive in colder climates. They need well-drained soils to grow in. These flowers can be fall planted in zones 7-10. There are several varieties of California poppies. There are perennial and annual native California poppies that are a brilliant orange color, as well as multicolored varieties that come in single petals. Poppies attract bees, butterflies, and birds. The huge showy 2 - 4 inches blooms make them an excellent cut flower, and their unique looking seed pods are splendid in dried arrangements or for crafts. They are known in folk medicine as a mild sedative and analgesic. The california poppy is a protected species, and there is a $500 per plant fine for destroying them! Both perennial and annual poppy seeds. Prefer full sun. Bloom time: late spring - early fall. Hardiness zone: 6 - 10 (and reseeds itself easily). Light requirements: sun . . . Soil / water: average - dry.
