In aquariums, the water’s phosphate level plays an important role. Excessive phosphate causes increased algae growth and poor fish health in freshwater and saltwater aquariums and serious harm to corals in saltwater reef aquariums. Our high-capacity GFO(granular ferric oxide) has nearly four times the phosphate removal capacity by volume in saltwater as other phosphate removers . It is denser, so it fluidizes well in a reactor with reduced channeling and is more mechanically stable for fewer fines after rinsing. Even when severely stressed, with GFO HC, the water remains clear and does not discolor during treatment. In addition to phosphate, GFO HC also removes silica. It strongly and effectively binds both phosphate and silica for lasting removal from your aquarium. Start with a standard dose of 1 gram/gallon and add or change media when phosphate levels start to rise or algae increases. For best results, do not allow phosphate levels to test above 0.05ppm. GFO HC can also be used as a swimming pool additive to manage phosphates by addition to swimming pool filters. It is a non-toxic alternative to other phosphate management approaches.
