This pintle hook connects to the receiver ring and the hitch ball connects to a ball coupler. If connecting to a standard coupler or towing Ring , removing the pin and clip,lift up on the T-handle ,it’s going to allow you to bring back that upper arm and then that opens the unit . So at this point you can make your connection again whether you are doing a towing Ring connection or a standard coupler connection. This Pintle hitch’s hitch ball can be removed and a different one can be installed so you can swap this one for a 1-7/8 inch ball or 2 inch ball ,( these ball are not include.)
