MOUTHWATERING RICH NORWEGIAN BROWN CHEESE: Gjetost cheese is simply delicious, toothsome and rich, and lingers on the palate for miles, which probably appeal to the Norwegian skiers, who pack it as a hearty snack on the slopes. (You may also call it “ski cheese”). You’ll be left smacking your lips, just trying to de-stick it from the roof of your mouth: it’s like the peanut butter of cheese. YUM!
THE FAMOUS SKI QUEEN CHEESE: Gjetost is a fabulous time-consuming process which requires slow and continuous heating of whey, cream, and milk. Over many hours, the milk sugars are cooked to the point of caramelization. In its solid state, Gjetost is a concentrated, sweet block that tastes more like butterscotch than like actual cheese. Pretty unique and incredible!
KNOWN AS BRUNOST CHEESE: Say it: “Yay-toast.” Have you tried this cheese? It’s Norwegian, and although the name translates directly to “goat cheese,” chances are that this cheese tastes just about as far from any you’ve had before. Gjetost is as sweet as caramel, with the texture of a dense, buttery fudge.
GJETOST NORWEGIAN CHEESE: This fantastic, toothsome brown, goat’s milk cheese is so creamy, caramel-y, and fudge-like that it’s pretty much the cheese all other cheeses wish they could be.
This Norwegian cheese is made under the Ski Queen brand from a mixture of cow and goat's milk. It has a unique, sweet flavor due to the way in which it is processed. The milk is cooked until the sugars in it have caramelized, giving the cheese its distinctive brown color and sweet flavor. The milk is then curded and pressed. This distinctive Norwegian "brown cheese" (brunost) became popular as a skiers' snack and thus the label "Ski Queen". It is widely popular among Scandinavian-Americans, and children especially are drawn to its sweet flavor.Made from pasteurized cow and goat's milk.Photo depicts whole2.2 lb. form of cheese.
