Polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG) is a type of thermoplastic polyester that is highly durable, impact-resistant, and highly transparent. Popular for both commercial and consumer use, these PETG sheets are perfect for a wide variety of applications whether it be indoor or outdoor. PETG sheets are also the perfect alternative for acrylic (plexiglass) and polycarbonate sheets. It is more cost-effective, food-safe, fully recyclable, and has a higher impact resistance (it's 5 to 7 times stronger than acrylic sheets of similar thickness). It's the same material used in some water bottles and food retail packaging. The sheets are thermoformable and can take high amounts of pressure without the risk of cracking. A bit thinner, but with the same durability and shatter-proof quality of acrylic sheets and plexiglass. The sheets are thinner than average picture frame glass (0.078 - 0.098 inch on average) but they still provide adequate protection for treasured photos, prints, and artwork. You can easily add a cardboard backing to keep the photos and the PETG sheet snug to the frame. This thickness is also perfect for punching holes, die-cutting, routing, and bending. And since these sheets are thin enough, you can cut them by scoring with a utility knife. You can also use power saws but these saws can melt the cutting edge of sheets due to friction. PETG's working temperature is only within the range of 194-230 °F while deformation begins at 338 °F. Just like acrylic, PETG is suitable for die-cut machine cutting and engraving. It's important to take note, though that different die cut machine models (including Cricut) have different cutting and engraving capacities. They also differ on the dimensions of materials they can handle but these PETG sheets are well within what the machine can handle.
