Agar-Agar is a natural vegetable gelatin counterpart derived from seaweed / algae (polysaccharide agarose). When prepared It forms a semi-translucent gel that can be used in culinary applications to make jellies, puddings & custards, etc. It is also useful in microbiology as the base medium for culturing bacteria and germs in petri dishes. Nutrients are added to the agar as appropriate for the specific type of microorganisms being cultured. Agar strips can be converted into gel by boiling in hot water until dissolved (25 grams of agar strips for every 3 Liters of liquid), allow it to cool afterwards and it will become a gel.
