Amazon.com Chopin's nationalistic side brought out the best in Artur Rubinstein. The pianist's stereo remakes yield nothing in pomp and swagger to his two earlier Polonaise cycles from the thirties and fifties, and benefit from upgraded engineering and more rhythmic exactitude. While Rubinstein's cheery traversal of the Polonaise Fantasie glosses over the work's brooding, introspective qualities, the pianist is thoroughly in his element elsewhere, especially in his signature A Flat and F Sharp Minor Polonaises. You won't go wrong with this disc. --Jed Distler
