About BOOK OF PRAYER - መጽሐፈ ጸሎት: THEOTOKIA

This book is a short pocket size prayer book compiled in English and Geez for people to pray inside and outside of church. It is important to note that this book doesn’t represent the entirety of Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC) horologium as the church has many non-Eucharistic liturgical prayers compiled by different saintly scholars. The most popular full Horologium written by St. Aba Giorgis (George) ze-Gasecha consists of 24 hour cycle prayer. This book only takes two most common prayers from his work and added works by later scholars in Matin and vespers to introduce the saint’s marvelous work. God willing the entirety of his work will be the focus of the publishers. Included in this book: Full Theotokia (Weddase Mariam) of the seven days, the daily prayer, the angels praise to St. Mary. Vespers and Matins which include Have mercy on us Father (Mehare Ab) for vespers. Blessed be the Lord (Yitbarek) for Matins. This book also contains selected psalms for the two canonical hours of prayer and full Litanies for seven days, and other prayer for confession, communion, and repentance. This book is made in accordence to the oral, liturgical and other traditions of the Geez rite mainly used by the Ethiopian and Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Churches.
